Indian Immigration Check Post (s) will consider PIO cards for exit from/entry into India only till December 31, 2025.

It may please be noted that no further extension beyond 31.12.2025 will be given and the existing PIO cardholders will have to get their PIO cards converted to OCI card by 31.12.2025, else they will have to get Visa from the Indian Missions/Posts abroad for travel to India and service of ‘New Visa’ from FRROs on the e-FRRO online portal if they are already living in India.

It may also be noted that the process of conversion of PIO card to OCI card is not automatic. The PIO Card holders need to formally apply online through Consulate’s website, for OCI card. After conversion, the applicant will receive a physical, machine-readable OCI card. Keeping in view the process time, PIO card holders should apply online well in time so as to ensure that physical OCI card could be handed over to them by 31.12.2025.
