Consulate General of India, Houston to Commemorate 150 Years of Vande Mataram on March 7, 2026

The Consulate General of India, in partnership with The Center for Indian Classical Music of Houston (CICMH) and Vallabh Priti Seva Samaj (VPSS Haveli) and other diaspora organizations, will commemorate 150 years of Vande Mataram on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at VPSS – Shree Nathji’s Haveli (11715 Belfort Village Dr., Houston, TX 77031). Composed in 1875 by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Vande Mataram became the spiritual and emotional anthem of India’s freedom movement and later attained the status of India’s National Song. Its message of unity, cultural pride, and national awakening continues to inspire generations and resonates deeply with the vibrant Indo-American community.

This milestone commemoration is envisioned as a collective celebration of the Indo-American community—bringing together organizations, leaders, and community members to reflect upon India’s rich cultural legacy and reaffirm the bonds that connect heritage, identity, and shared values.

As part of the event, the Consulate will host a specially curated exhibition titled “150 Years of Vande Mataram,” showcasing, historical narratives, and artistic interpretations that trace the song’s journey from its composition to its enduring national significance.

In addition, a dedicated Consular and Tourism Information Desk will be set up to provide attendees with guidance on consular services, travel to India, and various government initiatives. This outreach effort aims to strengthen community engagement and ensure that essential services and information are accessible to all.

The Consulate looks forward to celebrating this historic milestone with the community and strengthening collective bonds through shared pride, purpose, and cultural unity.
